Sean Woods, 27, of Happy Valley Road, was sentenced in Magistrates' Court to six months in jail for unlawfully wounding his former roommate Alfred Thompson on November 8.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor said Woods returned to the home of Mr.

Thompson on Cook's Hill Road, Sandys Parish, around 8.30 p.m. to collect some of his belongings.

When he arrived he found his clothes lying on the ground outside. He confronted Mr. Thompson and the pair began to argue.

Sgt. Taylor said a fight then took place, resulting in Woods stabbing Mr.

Thompson above the left shoulder with a five-inch blade he had removed from one of his bags.

Mr. Thompson called his sister, who lived upstairs, and she called the Police.

Mr. Thompson was found by the officers slouched in his apartment, bleeding profusely from the puncture wound.

He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where it was discovered that the stabbing had punctured one of his lungs. He was given emergency surgery during which his lung collapsed three times.

Woods turned himself into the Somerset Police Station around 1 p.m. the next day and admitted the offence.

He also told Police that Mr. Thompson had used a baseball bat to strike him in the head.

Magistrate Edward King said the complainant "went toward death's door''.

Mr. King sentenced Woods to six months at the Westgate Correctional Facility.

Woods also admitted wilfully and unlawfully damaging a pedal cycle and unlawfully breaking a window on September 3.

Sgt. Taylor explained that on that evening Woods was visiting with his two children the home of their mother on Malabar Road in Sandys Parish.

The court heard Woods broke a window valued at $39 and twisted the wheels of a pedal cycle which cost $104.95 to repair.

Mr. King sentenced Woods to three months imprisonment for the first offence and one month for the second. The jail terms will run concurrent to the six months he was given for the stabbing assault.
