Owner of pit-bull terrier which killed rabbit puts his dog down

One of the two pit-bull terriers responsible for taking the life of a pet rabbit over a week ago met its own demise after the owners decided to put the dog to sleep.

The dog and her puppy entered the property of St. George's resident Mr. Gary Fraser on a rampage with intentions of killing his pet rabbits which included eight two-week-old rabbits.

Despite efforts to chase the dogs away with sticks Mr. Fraser took a machete to the female pit bull slicing her leg. But not before the two dogs were able to kill the only buck Mr. Fraser had.

"The day after the dogs killed my rabbit, the owners put her down,'' Mr.

Fraser told the The Royal Gazette .

He added: "They inquired about what happened because they saw the story in the newspaper.

"The owners, who are my neighbours, told me that it was their dogs who had killed my rabbit. And they said that they were aware that the dogs had gotten loose by digging a hole under the kennel in their back yard.'' Mr. Fraser also said that the dog was loosing a lot of blood from the cut on her leg and the owners took her to the vet, and asked that she be put to sleep.

"I took the owners to the back of the house and showed them what the dogs had done. I told them that if they gave me a new rabbit cage, I would not press charges and they agreed,'' Mr. Fraser said.

He added: "They offered me a rabbit but I told them I wanted to stick with my own line.

"The owner also told my wife that she wanted the other dog to be put down because she was afraid that the puppy would come back to my house because of what I did to its mother.'' Mr. Fraser also said that the owners of the dogs did not try to hide the matter.

"They were very sorry and hurt about what had happened,'' he said.
