Sammy DeGraff scored twice as North Village put an end to Somerset Trojan's unbeaten home record last night.

The Rams midfielder struck twice in twenty minutes to send his side second in the Premier Division.

And although defender Desmond Burgess' goal for the home side gave North Village a few nervy moments towards the end, they never seemed in serious danger of losing their lead.

Somerset created little in front of goal, and when they did manage to get an opening, it invariably came from a Village mistake, or was a shot from distance.

Not that Village were anything special in defence, but they had no need to be. Trojans persisted on thumping long balls into the box, which central defender Kofi Dill was able to deal with easily.

Dill is long past the stage where he can match strikers for pace, and so the best way to beat him is to make him turn, Somerset largely failed to do that, and the one time they did get past him, Jelani Scott's effort was well blocked by Jason Williams.

Aside from Scott's shot, Tahj Wade went close a couple of times, but his insistence on cutting inside, rather than trying to cross the ball, meant that moves broke down more often than he got a shot in.

For their part Village looked like the better organised side, they denied Somerset the space the home side gave them, and when the time came to finish a move, DeGraff was more than equal to the task.

His first came after half an hour when a quick break saw Ralph Bean suck in three defenders before slipping the ball wide for the unmarked DeGraff to fire home.

And the second came in similar fashion moments after the break. This time Piere Smith was the provider, chipping a clever ball through the middle for DeGraff to run onto, and slip past goalkeeper Andrew Jjombwe.

Burgess' header from a corner gave his side a glimmer of hope, but Village held firm, and might have added a third but for Jjombwe's smart save to deny Smith.
