Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd is planning to restart US-based cruise voyages in August, although they will only be for trips to Alaska.

It is one of the major cruise operators that sails to Bermuda. Currently, Norwegian is not sailing from direct from the US mainland to Bermuda or other overseas destinations due to restrictions set by the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention to combat the spread of Covid-19.

The company operates the Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises brands.

It announced yesterday that it expects a return to cruising in the US this summer with Alaska cruises on Norwegian Bliss sailing from Seattle beginning August 7. It said the restart of cruising in the US is contingent on obtaining a Conditional Sailing Certificate from the CDC, which it expects to be granted in the coming days.

Voyages will operate with all guests and crew required to be fully vaccinated.

Another cruise operator, Royal Caribbean International, last week announced its planned return to US-based voyages in July and August, with roundtrips between Seattle and Alaska.

On May 5, the CDC published technical instructions for cruise ship operators preparing to conduct simulated voyages in advance of restricted passenger voyages under a Covid-19 Conditional Sailing Certificate.
