OBMI hires Hinds as director of sustainability
Bermuda-based architects OBM International (OBMI) has announced the appointment of K Denaye Hinds as director of sustainability.Colin Campbell, regional director of OBMI, said: “OBMI has its roots in Bermuda and the Caribbean, and we are delighted to be able to appoint Denaye, a Bermudian, to drive our sustainability practice internationally.“OBMI’s island origins and the related cultural and environmental sensitivity have been key to our international growth”.In her new role, Ms Hinds will lead and expand OBMI’s international design and planning sustainability practice. She will focus on building relationships and engaging the development community, as well as local governments, to promote sustainability objectives for OBMI’s clients and the places where their projects reside.Ms Hinds will also implement company-wide education programmes, which include conducting and managing OBMI’s Green Globe Certified Projects. In early 2011, OBMI developed a partnership with Green Globe Certification to establish a global platform that brings sustainability standards through a certification programme to the operation and management of resort destinations and communities. In addition to implementing the Green Globe worldwide sustainability system, Ms Hinds will actively engage in environmental philanthropy and community outreach projects for OBMI.Prior to joining OBMI, ms Hinds was an independent contractor specialising in sustainability consulting and auditing. She assisted South Florida and Caribbean entities in the process of certification under national and international environmental certifications through Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) project work, sustainability presentations and training. While in Bermuda over the past year, she headed the “Growing up Green” component of the Greenrock Green School’s Project under her local charity GreenBean Inc, among other initiatives.“Denaye’s experience and extensive knowledge of the sustainability process makes her an invaluable addition to our team and a strong attribute to advance environmentally-conscious practices in all stages of our firm’s projects,” said Michele Smith, managing director of OBMI Bermuda.
