US visitor admits importing drugs

An American visitor yesterday admitted importing drugs to the Island.Rodney Small swallowed 48 pellets of cannabis resin before he boarded a flight on January 31.Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered a social inquiry report for the Elizabeth New Jersey resident and remanded him into custody until sentencing.Crown counsel Larissa Burgess told Magistrates’ Court that Customs officers became suspicious of Small upon his arrival at LF Wade International Airport and selected him for a search.The 29-year-old told the officers that he came to Bermuda for five days to see his girlfriend and to see the Bob Marley show.An X-ray revealed foreign objects inside his body and Small was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital to excrete the drugs.Ms Burgess said that ten pellets have yet to be analysed, but the resin contained in the 38 pellets examined totalled 394.19 grams.The case was adjourned until April 9 for sentencing.
