Pearman outplays three-time champ
Bean's three-year reign yesterday with two quality rounds of golf in the final at Castle Harbour.
The assistant professional at Port Royal, Pearman was sharp as ever from the outset when he carded four birdies and two eagles in the morning round to give him a five-hole advantage over his opponent, who is the professional at Belmont.
However, in the afternoon, Bean showed why he has become the island's best match player when he turned his game around and made a spirited fight back.
He did well to come within three after 30 holes before Pearman finally ended his challenge on the 33rd hole to take the game 4 and 3.
The new champion pocketed $625 for first place, while Bean took home $475. The consolation final saw St. George's professional Kim Swan beat Ocean View's Keith Smith 4 and 2.
The PGA's next event is the Footjoy Pro-Scratch tournament at Castle Harbour on Sunday.
DWAYNE PEARMAN -- Potted top prize.
