Man fined $400 for damaging prison cell

A 50-year-old Pembroke man was fined yesterday in Magistrates' Court for causing damage to a prison cell.

Crown counsel Robert Welling told the court that on Saturday, duty Police officers heard a loud consistent banging coming from Ronald Dillas' holding cell.

When they checked, he was sitting on the bed kicking the toilet seat, which eventually caused flooding.

Police ordered him to stop but Dillas continued. Police then arrested him for wilful damage and Dillas said 'whatever'.

Asked by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner why he damage the property, Dillas said: "They arrested me on Thursday for suspicion for burglary. I lost two days work as I was denied a phone call. I was irritated."

He was fined $400.
