Police seized a large amount of drugs, believed to be cocaine, from a passenger on a flight diverted to Bermuda on Tuesday as a result of the terrorist attack in the United States, The Royal Gazette has learned.

Narcotics and Customs officers discovered the "significant" amount of drugs hidden in the luggage of man travelling on the Continental flight from San Juan, Puerto Rico to Newark, New Jersey. A Police spokesman was unable to confirm the size of the seizure or the street value. Nor could he confirm that a passenger had been arrested in connection with the haul.

The drugs were spotted as passengers and their luggage were unloaded on Tuesday.

A Police spokesman told The Royal Gazette yesterday: "I can confirm that when the flights were being unloaded a significant seizure of drugs was made that was concealed in luggage.

"The seizure was made shortly before 2 p.m."
