Puzzling sign wins newspaper prize

St. George?s mayor E. Michael Jones is unperturbed by a street sign from the Old Town winning a silly sign competition in the Washington Post.

The picture shows a sign to the town centre with arrows going in opposite directions.

Mr. Jones said it was perfectly logical as it was possible to get to the town centre either way from that point in Penno?s Drive.

?Taken out of context it might seem strange until you get to the sign and see it.?

He said the sign suggesting two routes had been put there after shopkeepers had complained tourists were favouring one route over the other and they were missing out on business.

He said he ?wasn?t concerned in the least? about the publicity ? which might even help promote the town.

The picture was submitted by Oscar J. Olson who dubbed the picture ?Decisions, Decisions!?
