Salvage mission begins for capsized yacht

The owner of the capsized yacht Everest Horizontal will return to the Island today to recover his boat.

Tim Kent will return to the Island this evening before going offshore to find, locate, and recover the boat.

Around the World Alone sailor and director of the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute (BUEI) Alan Paris, who helped locate the missing vessel, said: “The effort will be to flip it upright and tow it back to Bermuda. If they haven't been able to flip it upright out there they'll flip it here”

As reported in yesterday's Royal Gazette, Mr. Kent will retrieve the yacht with the local boat Wildcat and fellow solo sailor Brian Van Liew.

Mr. Paris could not say for sure what Mr. Kent would do once the yacht was brought to the Island.

He speculated that the owner would try to salvage the mast and possibly ship the yacht back to US.

He added: “There are a lot of variables but the goal is to put Humpty Dumpty back together again.”
