admitted breaking into the Sparrow's Nest club and stealing cash and cigarettes.

Shannon Somersall, of St. Mary's Road also pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court yesterday to possessing without lawful excuse a metal pipe, an instrument of housebreaking.

Prosecuting Sgt. Donald Grant told the court that on May 25 at 5.35 a.m.

Somersall was found by Police hiding in the Reid Street club.

"Officers were called to the club after receiving information that there had been a possible break-in,''Sgt. Grant said.

He added: "The officers saw the defendant in the building through an open window and noticed that an air conditioner had been removed from a wall. They found Somersall in an office at the rear of the building.'' When interviewed by Police, Somersall said that while in the building he pried open the cigarette machine and emptied it taking $454.70 and 196 packets of cigarettes.

He also stole a bottle of beer.

Sgt. Grant also told the court that Somersall had an extensive history of similar offences dating back to 1983, and had recently been given a 12 month suspended prison sentence.

Duty Counsel Mr. Carlsen Philip said that Somersall was the father of two with another baby on the way.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis sentenced Somersall to 12 months for breaking, entering and theft, and six months for possessing a metal pipe, which will run concurrently. He also activated the suspended 12 month prison sentence which will run consecutively.
