Memorial service for Mayor Bluck planned for tomorrow

Plans for a memorial service and book of condolence to pay tribute to Mayor of Hamilton Jay Bluck were announced yesterday.

Mr. Bluck, 65, died on Friday after being in office for just four months. He lapsed into a coma after falling ill on Wednesday at his Somerset home, but the cause of his death has not yet been made public.

Members of the Corporation of Hamilton have arranged for a condolence book to be available in the foyer of City Hall from today through Friday, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:45 p.m.

Deputy Mayor David Dunkley is in charge at City Hall until the necessary election is arranged. He said yesterday: ?The sudden passing of our Mayor, friend and colleague has been a great loss to the city and community of Bermuda. The Corporation therefore invites the general public, family, friends and colleagues to share their thoughts and memories in the condolence book, which will be sent to his family as a tribute to the high regard in which Mayor Bluck was held.?

In addition, a memorial service will be held at Hamilton Cathedral on Wednesday at 3.30 p.m.

Mr. Bluck served on the Corporation of Hamilton for five years prior to becoming Mayor on April 27.

Out of respect for him, the Corporation offices will close at 12 noon on the day of the service.
