The court heard that Orlando Lee Burch, 26, of Smith Avenue, Warwick, entered the roundabout at South Road, Paget the wrong way before hitting the other rider on March 30.

The 18-year-old later told Police: "I don't even remember getting on the bike. I had just got off the booze cruise.'' Senior Magistrate William Francis told him: "You were so impaired you didn't even remember getting on the cycle.

"When you were breath tested five hours after the accident you still blew twice the legal limit. Heaven knows what the reading would have been at the time of the accident.'' Mr. Francis also gave a $400 fine and a year's driving ban to drunk rider Shane Alterry Minors.

Minors, 29, from Cottage Hill, Hamilton, had been picked up by Police on March 5 last year after police spotted him weaving about the road and saw a bottle fall from his bike and smash on the road.

Mr. Francis chided him: "You had liquor falling off you. That's what attracted Police to you.''
