Police report 19 people injured in 50 road accidents last week

Police continue to warn the public to drive safely after 50 accidents were reported last week.

Of the 50 collisions, 19 resulted in injury.

Two visitors were taken to hospital on Monday following an accident in Devonshire that day.

The visitors, a 72-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman, were on a rental cycle around 4.55 p.m. when it collided with a bus at the intersection of Montpelier Road and Middle Road.

The riders were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The man has since been released while the woman is in stable condition on a general ward.

Police also reported 33 vehicle thefts between September 6 and September 19 — three of the vehicles have already been recovered.

Police still probing Tools & Equipment attack

Police are continuing to investigate an attack on a store manager that caused him to be airlifted abroad for medical treatment.

Malcolm Simons was struck in the head with a hammer by a would-be thief who entered Tools & Equipment on North Street, Pembroke on Saturday.

The 64-year-old had to be flown to Boston for treatment of his injuries as a result of the attack, which occurred around 12.45 a.m.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable Eddie Shillingford on 295-0011.
