Cinema shooting suspect reported to have left Island
A suspect in the shooting outside Southside Cinema has reportedly left the Country.
According to a report aired on ZBM News last night, 28-year-old Jahmel Blakeney left Bermuda on a flight to New Jersey.
Mr. Blakeney is the son of Environment Minister Glenn Blakeney.
He was released on bail after his arrest in connection with the November 13 shooting of Shaki Minors, 26, and Renee Kuchler, 24.
A second suspect, 18-year-old Sanchey Grant, was also released on bail. He was jailed on November 19 for nine months on another matter.
Police have not formally named either the victims or the pair arrested.
A Police spokesman said: "When an individual is released on Police bail, there are no restrictions on their ability to travel overseas.
"However, they are bound to reappear at a Police station on a specified date.
"Travel restrictions can only be made by a judge or magistrate once a suspect has been placed before the court and charged with an offence."
Police are still appealing for witnesses to the shooting to step forward.
Over 100 people were believed to be in the area when the incident occurred.
The Environment Minister could not be reached for comment by press time.
