One HIV case reported

There were no new cases of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) reported to the Health Department between July and September and only one case of Human Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV).

The infected man is in the 40-49 age group and said he contracted the disease through sex with multiple male and female partners.

The third quarter statistics were released by the epidemiology unit of the Ministry of Health yesterday.

Between January and March there were five cases of HIV reported to the Health Department, between April and June there were two, bringing the total for the year to eight.

While there were no reported AIDS cases this quarter there were three in the first and one in the second. The total for the year is four.

The total number of reported AIDS cases since 1982 is 491. The disease also claimed the life of two this year bringing the total number of deaths since 1982 to 389.

Since 1985, 541 cases of HIV have been reported locally.
