US developer hit with $2.5m judgment
$2.5 million against American developer Thomas Coughlin.
Shelly Hall Co. Ltd. and Strawberry Hill Co. Ltd. filed writs against the Hartford, Connecticut businessman for $1,950,000 and $495,000 respectively late last year.
And recently the Court awarded each of the condominium development firms what they asked for plus interest.
This came to $34,405.29 for Shelly Hall Co. Ltd. and $8,733.56 for Strawberry Hill Co. Ltd. taking the respective totals to $1,984,405.20 and $503,733.56.
Mr. Coughlin, who left the Island years ago, is no stranger to on-Island legal action.
In 1993, Mr. Coughlin was ordered to pay $235,000 to Summit Development, a company he co-owned at the time.
In 1994 he was the centre of a Police probe regarding the disappearance of hundreds and thousands of dollars from that same firm.
He was later ordered to pay about $500,000 to his partner in the company, and its president, Dilton Robinson.
And in 1994 he was ordered to pay $417,993.94 after the Bank of Butterfield and its subsidiary the Bermuda Building Society filed a writ claiming damages for more $750,000.
