Axis estimates $48m loss from Thai floods
Axis Capital Holdings Ltd expects top take a hit for $48 million from the floods in Thailand during the fourth quarter of 2011.This amount is net of reinsurance, taxes and reinstatement premiums.As a total the company estimates an additional loss of $75 million from catastrophe events that occurred in the first three quarters of 2011 that will be added to the fourth quarter results. Of this amount, $31 million relates to the February earthquake in New Zealand.Another $32 million relates to the Japanese earthquake and tsunami a significant portion of this amount relates to the company’s decision to reserve the full limit of its exposure for a large mutual, after consideration of updated loss advices.l Alterra Capital Holdings Ltd also put out is estimates for losses during the fourth quarter yesterday evening which total approximately $50 million, including approximately $30 million from the Thai floods.The remaining catastrophe losses recorded for the quarter principally relate to the Japanese earthquake and tsunami event of March 2011.
