Motorist racks up $9,700 in fines or 200 days at Westgate
A 45-year-old was yesterday ordered to pay $9,700 in traffic fines or spend the next 200 days in prison.Sean Mallory was handed the stiff penalty by magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo after he pleaded guilty to several offences committed on December 13 and February 20 and 21.The Southampton resident admitted driving an unlicensed vehicle with no third party insurance, failing to stop, and fraudulently altering traffic documents.He was stopped by two police officers on different occasions for the same offences on February 20.Mr Tokunbo fined him $7,650 for the most recent offences and another $2,050 for crimes dating back to 2008.He also disqualified Mallory from driving all vehicles for one year.Mr Tokunbo ordered Mallory to pay the fines in full, or serve 200 days in jail for the offences committed in the last year and 100 days for the rest. The time would run concurrently.Asked by Mallory if there was anything he could say to change his mind, Mr Tokunbo replied: “You need to get hard on yourself and how you’ve abused the system. Go reflect on that.”
