Shoplifters in court
Store on Reid Street appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday.
Suerann Ible, 38, of Granaway Heights, Southampton, admitted stealing birth control pills worth $31.50 from the store on April 17 and was fined $300.
And 16-year-old school girl Esther Trott, of St. Augustine Lane. Pembroke, pleaded guilty to stealing $40.65 worth of pregnancy tests and baby oil from the store on April 13.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered a social inquiry for her and she will return to court on June 2 for sentencing.
The court heard that store employees watched Ible as she shopped and picked up a prescription from the pharmacist. While she paid for her other items, she did not pay for the prescription.
She was confronted outside the store before being taken into a rear office where the Police were called from.
Yesterday she told Mr. Warner: "It was no intention. Sorry.'' Meanwhile, Trott was also watched as she shopped and was seen putting items in her knapsack. She walked out of the shop without making any attempt to pay.
She told Mr. Warner she was sorry and he replied: "Because of your age and circumstances I'm going to order a social inquiry report with a view to aiding me in how to deal with you.'' Trott was released on $300 bail with one surety.
