Thousands of honey bees swarmed a Front Street tree on Wednesday.

According to Corporation of Hamilton Secretary Kelly Miller, a bee-keeper was called out to capture the queen bee and thereby remove the swarm.

Despite the explosion of bee activity which occurred near No. 6 shed, cruiseship visitors said they were little bothered by the insects.

?They don?t really bother me,? visitor Rick Malek said as he boarded the . ?They were here first.?

Ms Miller said Bermuda honey bees occasionally act this way but, once the queen was captured, the situation would be easily rectified.

?Once the Queen is captured, over the next few hours the others will disperse,? she said.

Government veterinarian Dr. Jonathon Nisbett said Environmental Protection would also assess the situation.

?It could be they followed a queen or it could be several drones,? Dr. Nisbett said. ?It may involve moving the hive.?
