City to reveal all about new bond issue
information on their just launched bond issue, the multi-storey car park and the Corporation of Hamilton. The meeting is expected to begin at 5.15 p.m.
The 8% Bermuda Dollar Bonds and 8% United States Dollar Bonds were offered as of Monday October 2, with a closing date of October 20. The issue is fully underwritten by the Bank of Butterfield.
The Mayor, the Wor. William Boyle, will be on hand to answer questions. The Bank's manager, Capital Markets Division, Mr. Bruce Sharpe, will be making the presentations at City Hall as the underwriter on the bond issue itself.
He said yesterday, "It's going extremely well and exactly according to plan.
It looks at though the offering will appeal to a very broad cross-section of investors.
"But it is interesting to consider that if you park in City Hall car park or any other Corporation car park, every business day, it will probably cost you about $1,000 a year. Whereas if you park at the new Bull's Head car park for the same period, it will cost you about $600 a year. That's a meaningful saving of about $400 a year.'' The purpose of the offer is to obtain long-term financing for the development and construction of the new multi-storey car park at Bull's Head, Hamilton, which is due to be opened next month.
There had been delays in the launching of the issue. Corporation secretary, Mr. Roger Sherratt, explained: "There have been some delays due in the first place to the Corporation having to seek several amendments to the Municipalities Act 1923, which had to be approved by Parliament.
"These included a provision allowing the Corporation to set up a special sinking fund with the approval of the Minister of Finance, and provisions to overcome some technical difficulties with regard to the Corporation's rights to acquire properties.''
