Valencia and Village on target for titles

Ready for action: Referee Leroy Wilson leads out BAA Knights and Somerset in Powerade Champions League

Valencia and North Village Red kept on course to defend their respective Powerade Champions League titles at Goose Gosling Field on Saturday.

Valencia, the under-ten champions, beat Hamilton Parish 3-1 in the quarter-finals to earn the right to meet group A winners BAA Green in the last four.

Unbeaten BAA Green will enter Sunday’s semi-final with Valencia as the firm favourites, having handed their rivals a heavy 4-0 defeat in the group stage.

The remaining under-10 semi-final will be between Somerset and North Village, the group B winners, who have yet to be beaten. Somerset reached the last four after thrashing Dandy Town Gold 4-1 in the quarter-finals.

North Village Red kept their under-eight title defence intact after a 3-0 quarter-final victory over Somerset. Village will now do battle with group A winners Hamilton Parish in the semi-finals.

In the other under-eight quarter-final, BAA Green defeated Warwick Academy 5-3. BAA Green will now face group B winners Valencia in the semi-finals.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Dandy Town and BAA Knights prevailed in their under-12 quarter-finals against Valencia and Somerset respectively. Town beat Valencia 2-0 in a penalty shoot-out after the teams were deadlocked at 1-1 at the end of normal time, while BAA Knights thumped Somerset 3-0.

Town will now face BAA Green, the unbeaten group B winners and defending champions, in the first under-12 semi-final while BAA Knights lock horns with unbeaten group A winners Hamilton Parish in the other semi-final.

BAA Green hammered Town 5-0 while Parish edged BAA Knights 2-1 during the group stage.

The finals will be held on May 17.
