The Institute of Risk Management (IRM) Bermuda Group has announced two upcoming events for risk professionals.
“The first is an interactive two hour educational session on Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA) and the impact on Bermuda insurers, said IRM Bermuda chairman Justin Baillie. “The second is the IRM’s internationally recognised and high quality two day Fundamentals of Risk Management (FORM) course.”
The ORSA session will cover the following areas together with an opportunity for Q & A and networking.
— Background to the evolution of US ORSA requirements.
— Lessons learned and early experiences.
— A comparison to Bermuda and European requirements.
— The impact of US ORSA requirements on Bermuda re/insurers.
— An overview of other related issues including the NAIC Corporate Governance Model Act.
The session is hosted by two leading industry professionals, Michael Byrne, who is a partner specialising in insurance regulatory and transactional work within Drinker Biddle & Reath’s Corporate & Securities Practice Group; and Robert Kasinow, director — examination resources has close to 28 years’ experience in the insurance industry including 24 years as an insurance regulator, most recently as Assistant Commissioner in New Jersey.
It will be held at the HSBC Harbourview Centre (sixth Floor), 37 Front Street, Hamilton on Friday, February 21, from 10am to noon.
The event is free but you must register. If you would like to attend, send an e-mail to: nick.nebard@catlin.com.
The Fundamentals of Risk Management (FORM) course will be held in Bermuda for the first time on March 3 and 4.
The course is run by the IRM around the world to rave reviews, targeting anyone with an interest or involvement in risk management. It provides a comprehensive introduction to practical enterprise risk management (ERM) and ISO 31000, the global risk management standard, and is a stepping stone to further IRM qualifications.
Mr Baillie said: “Bringing the FORM course here for the first time is a major win for us and will be of great benefit to all attendees. We are thrilled to be offering it at a 25 percent discount. The course is open to all and registration gives membership to the IRM.”
Nick Nebard, IRM Bermuda member and the key organiser of these events, said: “This two-day course offers a great introduction to the field of risk management and is relevant for all industries. Taught by qualified IRM experts with a wealth of practical experience it’s a very good first step on the knowledge ladder. The 25 percent discounted rate makes the course a great deal.”
