A floating dock at Dockyard could be moved to allow marine police to improve response times.
A floating dock in Dockyard could soon be moved to allow quicker responses by marine police.
According to a planning application, the West End Development Corporation hopes to move a floating dock, currently attached to the North Arm Public Dock, to the centre of the Marine and Ports slipway.
The application states that marine police vessels are currently operating from moorings at Barr’s Bay Park and Dockyard’s Pier 41, a situation which reportedly impacts response times for search and rescue operations and other calls for service.
The marine police were previously based at Barr’s Bay Park, but moved from that location last year due to the increasing cost of rent.
