Professional fundraisers

Charitable fundraising in Bermuda will soon acquire its own professional advocacy association, with the founding of a local chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).The group promotes ethical fundraising and provides resources for the development of the charitable sector.Accordingly, president of AFP International Andrew Watt is to visit Bermuda next week for a presentation, ahead of the expected 2014 establishment of the Island’s own AFP.On October 8, at the Centre on Philanthropy, Mr Watt will deliver two information sessions on fundraising: a 9am meeting with non-profit boards and executive directors, and a 12pm presentation to the donor community. The first meeting is open to “anyone who sits on a board, works at the senior staff level, or volunteers for the fundraising portion of a non-profit” according to Jennifer Burland Adams, president-elect of the Bermuda AFP.The second session costs $25 to attend. To sign up, e-mail afpbermuda@gmail.com or call Ms Burland Adams at 332-5366.
