A weekend event aimed at raising awareness about a proposed skate park was a huge success, according to organisers. While Adrian Kawaley-Lathan said that only half of the Island’s skateboarders took part in Saturday’s Gr8 2 Sk8 event, the ramps and rails set up near Front Street were in constant use throughout the day.“There was non-stop action from 2pm straight through 8pm,” Mr Kawaley-Lathan said. “The youth were so thrilled to have the park set up they even skated in the pouring rain. They didn’t waste a single moment.“A key quote from the day was a kid saying: ‘If there were a skate park I would skate every single day’.”He thanked the community for the support, the volunteers for their work and Mayor Graeme Outerbridge for making opening remarks.Mr Kawaley-Lathan said he has now begun work on a BMX Fun Day and fundraiser, asking for those in the BMX community to get in touch with him through www.skatebermuda.org.
