Dear Sir,As cricket is one of Bermuda's national sports we, a selection of parents of the Under-13 and Under-15 Bermuda National Academy Youth Cricket squad players, are very disappointed and saddened of the non-renewal of Mr. David Moore's work permit as the Bermuda Youth National Cricket Coach.At present, Mr. Moore is the only coach with a level three coaching licence of ICC standards which is the highest in Bermuda.With not only his skill set in cricket but his determination, dedication and commitment towards the youth programme development has been one of impeccable standard.He has taken the sport to a higher level with the youth players through: year-round training sessions, a trip overseas to the United Kingdom, a selection of squad members playing with an overseas team, and his support with the parents regarding academic and behaviour concerns.The training sessions were broken up into two groups a morning session focusing on batting and fast bowling, and an afternoon session for wicketkeeping and spin bowling techniques every Sunday. Also, he has arranged for coaches from the United Kingdom to train the squad locally.During the Under-13 and Under-15 Bermuda National Academy Youth Cricket trip to the United Kingdom in August, 2012, they played fixtures at various sporting clubs and hd a training session at Lords. They also visited the Cricket Museum and other attractions.Recently selected squad members from both Under-13 and Under-15 played a two-day match against Trinity College during their Easter break at Shelly Bay Field and were victorious.The youth squad are not only playing the sport just to play, but have developed a love for the cricket. This has been evident through their ongoing commitment to attend the training session and the growth of overall development and performance.As a former teacher Mr. Moore has maintained a caring rapport with the boys through not only his coaching but also guidance, leadership skills, and mentoring through his passion for the game.Mr. Moore has arranged for the Under-13 and Under-15 Bermuda National Academy Youth Cricket squad to travel to South Africa in February, 2014 to play fixtures as well as further enhance their development. The trip will also focus on the comparison of cultures to boost their self confidence, commitment and awareness of where cricket can take them professionally.It is unfortunate that we will lose Mr. Moore due to budget restraints of the Bermuda Cricket Board. Our hope is his contract will be revisited so that the programme will continue to the high standards he has set.Once again our young males have been set up only to be let down with lack of consistency within a structured programme. They will be forced to go overseas for further development to enhance their knowledge and skills for cricket if they wish to progress to the next level and professionally.We also would like to reach out to the public and private sectors for their financial support to keep the programme operational. This will provide a positive avenue for the male youth to represent Bermuda through cricket.CONCERNED PARENTS
