Govt ‘to address’ peeling reflective covers to bus stop posts
Government is looking into the deterioration of reflective plastic covers for bus stop poles and the condition of bus stops in general, a spokesman revealed last night. In a statement released in response to a Letter to The Editor published today, the spokesman said The Ministry of Public Works and the Department of Public Transport “are working together to address the condition and improve the aesthetics of our bus stops”.The reflective covers were introduced “to reduce the cost of maintenance and worked well but unfortunately they became a target for vandalism”, the spokesman said, before promising to “keep the public informed of progress”.In the Letter to the Editor, the letter writer complained that while the reflective covers “might of sounded like a good idea at the time”, they “started to deteriorate as they became torn and scratched and started peeling off in hot weather”.The letter writer called the situation disgraceful, and called for a return to pink and blue paint applied by workmen.
