Sims makes cut at Chile Classic
Michael Sims carded an even par 72 to make the cut at the ongoing Chile Classic at the Prince of Wales Country Club in Santiago yesterday.The 34-year old Bermudian pro overcame a wobble on the par fourth, eighth hole where he made a quadruple bogey.Sims immediately regained his footing with a birdie on the very next hole to make the turn two shots over par for the round.The past Bermuda Open winner who currently resides in Georgia, USA kept the momentum on the back nine where he carded an additional two birdies to enter the clubhouse at even par for the day with a two-round total of five-under-par 139.That left the University of Rhode Island graduate tied for 48th, one shot inside the cut that was made at 140 and ties.Sims’ second round included five birdies, a bogey and the quadruple bogey which threatened to ruin his stroll around the 6711-yard Prince of Wales Country Club layout.He is currently nine shots off the lead heading into today’s third round.Sims made a blistering start to the 72-hole Web.com Tour event after carding a five-under-par 67 that included seven birdies and two bogeys.American Edward Loar (130) leads the field at the halfway stage of the $180,000 Chile Classic by two shots over nearest rivals Brice Garnett (USA) and Danny Lee (New Zealand).
