Probation, community service for woman who slapped mother

A 31-year-old Pembroke woman who slapped her mother during a heated row received 12 months’ probation yesterday.Ayesha Lake entered guilty pleas last November to assaulting Roseann Edwards and causing $1,500 worth of damage to a kitchen window.Magistrates’ Court heard the incident occurred at Ms Edwards’ Angle Street home on September 24, in front of Lake’s five-year-old daughter.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered a Social Inquiry Report last year.“It seems you need some parenting help and your mother has been trying to do that in whatever way she could and you all seem to be clashing over that,” he said.He placed the defendant on probation for 12 months and ordered that she serve a minimum of 50 hours’ community service as set out in the Social Inquiry Report.Said Mr Warner: “This probation isn’t to punish you, but it’s to help you get over these difficulties and provide you with the training and skills to see you through these parenting difficulties and conflicts with your mother.”He also suggested anger management classes, supervised by the Department of Court Services.
