Wells struck by virus
Bermudian striker Nahki Wells is doubtful for Bradford City’s home game today against Rochdale because of a stomach virus.City manager Phil Parkinson has admitted that the club’s top scorer (15 goals) is unlikely to feature against Rochdale following his illness.Wells came on as a first-half substitute against Accrington Stanley on Boxing Day before being substituted himself in the second half, still feeling the effects of the virus.Wells had been feeling ill since last Friday and has not completely recovered in time for today’s match at the Coral Windows Stadium.Parkinson said he wasn’t likely to gamble on the striker."Nahki is still not right," Parkinson told Bradford’s official website yesterday."He came in and trained on Christmas Day and then said he felt fine on Boxing Day. He had managed to keep some food down and he said he felt his strength was up again.“In hindsight looking at it now though, we probably should have told him just to have a couple more days rest. We could only make the call on what we were told at the time, but he wasn't quite ready to feature properly against Accrington."Learning from this now, we have to make sure he is completely right before we throw him back in now. With that in mind, I don't think he'll be with us for the weekend."Wells came on in the 44th minute against Accrington and was substituted in the 72nd minute, with his replacement, Alan Connell, scoring the 86th minute winner that keeps Bradford in fifth place in the table, three points out of the automatic promotion places.
