The never-ending Club Med saga

( Photo by Glenn Tucker )The old Club Med site in St George's pictured earlier this month. A proposed new hotel and resort development has yet to break ground at the site.

August 25, 2012Dear Sir,I am getting tired of Carl Bazarian and his on-again/off-again talk of development of the old Club Med site. His efforts at blaming the people who objected to his plans (I did and still do) and the consequent return to Planning as the cause for the holdup is totally ludicrous. Good Grief! This project has been with Mr Bazarian going on (or possibly more than) six years, the Government has accorded him all sorts of special privileges, and he still cannot confirm when he will get on with it.In fact, I am personally glad he hasn't because maybe our Government will finally have the courage to show him the door ... and start again … or maybe not. I seem to remember that there was (in my opinion) a much better proposal on the table before Mr Bazarian came along, much more in keeping with the Bermuda image, that was close to being finalised which, if the Premier of the day had followed through with it instead of pulling the rug from under the Canadian developer, we would most likely have a hotel development up there in St George’s bringing guests to St George’s and Bermuda, which would most likely have encouraged others to do likewise resulting in more, rather than less guest developments.Perhaps you, Mr Editor, could research your archives and remind us what that development was and why it was so abruptly cancelled at a very late stage.JEANDevonshire
