The only choice
April 9, 2012Dear Sir,There is a Letter to the Editor in today’s Royal Gazette from ‘Hope Springs Eternal’ that reminds me that even when we seem to be on the same side, there is a lot of misunderstanding in the exchange of ideas — and especially those dealing in politics.I never claimed my idea that the One Bermuda Alliance would fail if they formed our next government was an original idea. I never claimed the likes of Dunkley, Gibbons, and Cannonier did not understand the difficulties they will face when they win, nor did I claim, hint or suggest they are sitting around with their heads in the sand. What utter nonsense. What I do claim is that it will need more than the combined brilliance of Dunkley, Gibbons, Cannonier et al to bring this Country back from the brink. ‘Hope Springs Eternal’ seems to suggest they will be doing it all by themselves. They will need the people behind them, and the people must not waver and fall by the wayside when the going gets tough — as it will.My lack of faith is not in the OBA. My lack of faith is in the people who are still manipulated by the racecard and by those who still voted in the last elections for a party that had already squandered millions of our dollars and who had performed a conjuring trick by making millions more disappear. And for crying out loud, of course ‘another five years of this malarkey will condemn us to poverty, unemployment like we have never seen and a community that will be brought to its knees by crime, corruption and drugs’ (to quote ‘Hope Springs Eternal’).Is the OBA the only choice? It’s not an original idea but of course they are.MARK EMMERSONPembroke
