Naughty or Nice….
Only a few days before the holidays and panic strikes…you forgot to send a card to one of your closest friends abroad. There’s no chance of it arriving by post even if you sent it today, and you can’t justify the cost of sending it by courier, so what other options do you have? There are a bevy of online options available, some of which are even free of charge. If you’re afraid the experience won’t be personal enough have no fear, many of them permit customisation and the options are almost endless.Egreetings.com is an easy to use, free e-card site that will allow you to add personalised messages and also offers animated cards. They are able to offer all of their cards free of charge due to support from large corporate sponsors.Currently, they offer a card entitled Cookie Catch a fundraising effort driven by Glad. For every Cookie Catch e-card sent, $0.50 will be donated to the Cookies for Kids Cancer fund. The card/game is heavily branded, but the concept of raising funds this way should be applauded and I urge you all to send one.American Greetings (www.americangrettings.com) is in my opinion, the most progressive of all the online sites that I reviewed. They offer a seven-day free trial which will allow you to make use of select e-cards. You can also become a member on a monthly, yearly or bi-yearly basis for a minimal fee.I was especially impressed with their Holiday Pics & Wishes option that allows you to create an incredible, customised holiday greeting. You are able to add up to 20 photos, video and voice to the presentation and it’s all packaged in a professional looking template that can be used by even those who are not completely computer savvy.Another site that deserves mention is Blue Mountain (www.bluemountain.com) they offer some spectacular, high quality e-cards but membership is required. If you typically lean towards buying their cards, you won’t be disappointed by the virtual ones available. They offer a seven-day trial period as well, but require credit/debit information up front.Perhaps the most innovative holiday e-greeting that I have ever seen is an interactive site called Portable North Pole (http://www.portablenorthpole.tv/home) that takes key information that you provide and converts it into a video featuring Santa and his elves.Portable North Pole is a free site and the results are unbelievable! Whether your loved one is naughty or nice, this is the only site you’ll need to visit this year. For those that want to keep an eye on Santa’s progress be sure to check out http://www.noradsanta.org on Christmas Eve.Next week we’ll take a look at virtual invitations. Have a safe and happy holiday!
