Man stole pet store cleaning products for after-hours job

A Hamilton Parish man stole supplies from his pet store workplace and used them on an after-hours job he had cleaning fish tanks.Christopher Alves, 30, of Sleepy Hollow Drive, pleaded guilty to stealing items worth $502 from Noah’s Ark on November 27.Magistrates’ Court heard that police staked out the store’s parking lot, after a fellow employee spotted Alves dropping the goods into a dumpster.Alves was caught that evening as he loaded the items into his car.He told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner: “Money was low, and I was trying to make extra cash on the side.”He said he cleaned aquariums for people outside of work, and needed the products, which he intended to return.Mr Warner called the excuse “pure foolishness” and ordered a social inquiry report before his January 20 sentencing.
