Hurricane season ends

The 2011 hurricane season formally ended yesterday, with Bermuda avoiding any notable damage.This year a total of 19 tropical storms were recorded including seven hurricanes, three of which were considered major hurricanes.While the number of storms was notably higher than the usual average of 11, Bermuda was largely unaffected by the storms.Tropical Storm Bret passed well to the Island’s north in July, followed by Gert and Jose in August.In September, Hurricane Katia threatened the Island, but travelled past Bermuda to the east, followed by Tropical Storms Maria and Ophelia.And in November, Tropical Storm Sean brought the Island gale force winds and rain, but caused no damage of note.
