New learning centre opens

A new learning centre aimed at boosting young people’s grades and confidence has officially opened its doors. The Oxford Learning Centre will host a grand opening celebration tomorrow from 6pm to 9pm.There will be prizes, games, and treats available; as well as special deals for the first students who enrol.Director Doyle Butterfield encourages area residents to come to their new office at 66 King Street and find out more about how Oxford Learning could help students improve their grades.“Confidence is a big part of helping children get better grades,” he said. “When children start to feel better about their learning abilities, they can accomplish anything. We’re really happy to be bringing these learning opportunities to the Bermuda community.”The centre is attached to Oxford Learning, founded in Ontario, Canada in 1984 by a group of education experts who developed an interactive programme to help children learn. It has grown to include more than 140 locations worldwide. Each Oxford Learning programme begins with an in-depth assessment of a child’s learning strengths and weaknesses. This process allows students to be placed in a programme where they will get academic support in a way that best meets their learning needs, said Mr Butterfield.Students work in small groups with teachers to develop their proficiency in math or reading, building their self-confidence as they work.Mr Butterfield said the timing of the grand opening coincides with the first term reports and parent/teacher interviews.“It’s a perfect time to introduce Oxford Learning to the community. Most parents recognise that an average education is not sufficient and want to equip their children with the right tools to succeed. Oxford Learning offers such tools.”For more information phone 296-6060 or e-mail bermuda[AT]oxfordlearning.com. The Oxford Learning Centre is located on the ground floor at 66 King Street, Hamilton.
