Prevent a tragedy
This was sent to The Minister of Transport and others and copied to The Royal Gazette.November 7, 2011.Dear Sir,I would like to express our concern at the EXTREME DANGERS which exist around and outside Flatts Post Office, Middle Road.1. COLLISION. When a driver of a vehicle leaves the Post Office to go toward Hamilton (in a westerly direction), the driver is forced to cross the road, risking collision with the oncoming traffic from Hamilton. This oncoming traffic appears suddenly from around a corner, often at excessive speed.2. PARKING. Lack of Parking at Flatts Post office causes a DANGEROUS congestion. Bikes and cars have to manoeuver for a parking spot every day, often resulting in the necessity to BACK UP into the main road, deadly close to speeding traffic near this DANGEROUS corner.3. SCHOOL CHILDREN. School children gyrate towards this area every school day, and have to cross the road to catch a bus. This adds to the chaos which will, one day, cause the DEATH or PERMANENT INJURY of a school child.A serious accident at this location is INEVITABLE and will result in DEATH or INJURY.On behalf of the public, I herewith ask the Government immediately to take all measures possible to avoid a serious collision occurring near or outside Flatts Post Office. If Government action is not taken without delay, then I give notice herewith that I will hold the Government fully responsible for any death or injury which may occur.MICHAEL G. MARSHSmiths
