Celebrate Diwali at Indigo

Few locals will get the chance to experience Diwali, the festival of lights, in all its splendour on the Indian subcontinent.But thanks to a local eatery they can get a taste of the cultural celebration by watching Bollywood movies, listening to Indian music and feasting on South Asian cuisine.The Indigo Restaurant in Flatts is celebrating Diwali on Wednesday from 6pm until 11pm.According to Belcario Thomas, the project manager: “In the Indian community it is the date to circle in one’s calendar. It's the ultimate celebration of authentic food, entertainment and culture.”He said the event would be hosted at Indigo's new back terrace. The fragrant aromas from the all-you-can-eat-buffet should let people know “something tasty is being cooked up”, he said.In addition to the music, movies and food, there will also be a special performance by the Island’s finest Bollywood dancers the Bollykids from BSmart.People are invited to come out in traditional Indian dress. There will also be speciality desserts, card playing and sparklers to round off the evening.The event is part of an ongoing three-month promotional Indian food festival, from now until December.Indigo, a multi-cuisine restaurant, is featuring authentic South Asian dishes and people can indulge themselves with a three-course Indian meal for $30.Mr Thomas encouraged others to “spread the word” about the Diwali celebration and hopes people will come out and “enjoy one amazing offering of really good Indian food and more”.Tickets cost $45 for adults and are 10 percent off when pre-ordered; children can also eat free.There will be a cash bar selling wine, beer and cocktails.
