September 2, 2011Dear Sir,I have sat in many meetings for the OBA and the things I hear play to a different tune than I have heard from other parties. The OBA offers significant change such as tuning up our awful system of electing people and setting when elections are called. They cannot do this until they are given the chance. They truly do have much to offer and I enjoy seeing new faces at the meetings especially people under 35. I have been to two meetings in a week where I had a chance to meet many young people I had previously never met before and they themselves have bright futures and are willing support the OBA, because the OBA supports them. This gives me such hope.In other political rallies and meetings I have seen or witnessed I see so many older generation people, and this is fine, but the youth is the future. We, the youth, have a very heavy burden upon our shoulders ahead of us which this current government has placed on us through the total mismanagement of funds.Humanity itself is a sustainable development so long as the new are taught and brought up to take over from the old. I do not see that in other parties. I do not see the youth involved with them for we are tired of the old system and petty racial slandering. The OBA takes a step beyond that pettiness I feel.Bermuda also needs a serious leader. A leader with experience as well as the drive to serve Bermuda best, not themselves, and be transparent in their dealings. I for one would like to see Bob Richards take the helm as he is a perfect candidate to take the lead to steering a ship sinking in financial debt back into calm prosperous waters. He long warned the PLP about the coming recession and was dismissed by them and repeatedly has many suggestions that would help alleviate the mounting debt crisis. This is leading to a loss of jobs and causing people to be more desperate leading to higher criminal activity and a further breakdown of our weak social structure.Having said that, I also believe all candidates are excellent choices for the upcoming OBA leadership election. I implore everyone to at least come and listen if they do not wish to vote that is fine. They do not have to sign up and vote (although it be nice if they did), but just come and listen to what these candidates have to offer. I especially reach out to young people. Again I say to them be mindful we are the future and the future is now! We have no hope of success and opportunity on this island under its current government. They have sucked that from us. We have the power to change it and is our duty to do what’s best for Bermuda for it is ours to inherit. Let us not inherit anymore debt and problems.Come to the OBA meeting on September 10 and be a part of the solution for change.ROBERT DAVIESProud OBA supporter
