'Déjà vu all over again'

June 28, 2011.Dear Sir,In her Throne Speech of November 2010, the Premier invited us to take note of “the new normal” as applied to Bermuda. This interesting adaptation of Peter Drucker's statement is now reflected in Bermuda's state of affairs since November. The “new normal” is the Opposition filling debate time in the Legislature because the Government can't produce legislation. The “new normal” is the Governor travelling with the Premier to validate Bermuda as a financial services jurisdiction and its Minister of Finance as a leader, when everything he learned about the industry he learned here. The “new normal” is a Premier who is clearly unable to forge a record of her own beyond vacuous, out of touch speeches, and distances herself at every turn from the record of her predecessor, even though it's the only one she's got. Lastly, the “new normal” is men consigned to second place every time. Every appointment of consequence since November appears to have gone to women. Sir, as I watch this farce play out on our local stage its déjà vu all over again. This Government will survive; this Administration is in trouble. 2003 anyone?A.S. SIMONSPaget
