Wilson hosts West End EEZ meeting

Economy Minister Kim Wilson

Economy Minister Kim Wilson will be leading a public meeting tonight aimed at encouraging entrepreneurship in the West End.The event, which is being hosted by the Bermuda Small Business Development Corporation (BSBDC) at the Sandys Secondary Middle School, will see Minister Wilson sharing the Economic Empowerment Zones Agency’s (EEZA) plans for the Somerset area with attendees. The Minister will also use the opportunity to promote her “Passion Into Profit” initiative, by urging individuals who have a specific interest or passion to seriously consider the idea to create a small business.Minister Wilson said: “Entrepreneurial activity is a powerful tool in the job creation process and it is a key component in the Ministry’s overall programme. Lately we have seen quite a few new businesses springing up despite the challenging climate, and I believe that the success of our economy depends on the success of small business. Therefore initiatives designed to turn ‘Passion Into Profit’ are featuring heavily in our strategy to stimulate our economy.”The Minister added that the meeting was open to those who are unemployed and have a business idea they would like to develop as a good networking opportunity which could help in developing their concepts into a profitable entity.“Today’s meeting is quite significant as we are pressing forward with our plans to expand the EEZ into the West End,” she said. “All are welcome, as I am very keen to chat with as many individuals as possible so that we can encourage and impress upon them that small businesses are sometimes born of necessity.”The meeting will start at 7pm.For more information contact 296-4339 or email esmith[AT]bsbdc.bm or cbutterfield[AT]bsbdc.bm
