Leaders should convince

Dear Sir,This letter is in reply to Polly of Smith’s letter of June 7, 2011 responding to my letter of the same date.First let me state that I do not accept that the strict adherence to a Constitution, any Constitution is malarkey, in the same way that I don’t accept that the loyalty and adherence to principles and rules are malarkey.Polly says that the reason for not acting on Kim’s, Charlie’s and my requests to involve the general membership in the decision making process was due to the lack of interest by the membership in party matters. I would have thought that once this was determined, every effort would have been made to stimulate interest. Instead it was decided to wind up the party. Polly says that “leadership means making the tough calls”. I also add, successful leaders are those that convince others to follow, and you can’t convince them if you don’t communicate with them.Yes Polly, you are right I would rather fight than switch, or at least communicate.ERWIN P ADDERLEY JPFormer Deputy Leader of the United Bermuda Part
