The Job with Marilyn Zuill

Marilyn Zuill

Age: 29Role: Graphic Designer, emedia BermudaWhat is your job? I am in charge of designing the look and usability of all our websites. Together with Susan I am also in charge of creating visual advertising concepts and layouts as well as branding campaigns. What is your favourite part of the job? Branding! I love to create a new look for a business or organisation; designing everything from a new logo and stationary to packaging and promotional material. I like the look when you combine art with design, so whenever I can incorporate illustrations into layouts or branding I get very excited! What is your least favourite part of the job? My least favourite part of the job is when I have to wrap my head around the construction of a website in terms of the coding etc. I am a very visual person, so when I have to work with a structure I can't actually ‘see' I get frustrated. To me it is like watching paint dry! It is a tedious but necessary part of the job. What is your most interesting experience at work? Office Christmas parties usually have many funny and embarrassing moments. Since most of my week is spent with my 18-month-old son I enjoy coming into the office for some grown-up time where I can enjoy actual conversations with adults! Some of which are usually funny, quirky and sometimes hilarious, and I enjoy the change of scenery I get! What would you be doing otherwise? I would love to have my own children's art and decor brand - creating patchwork art and textiles, curtains, stuffed animals, linens etc. My dream is to have my own studio where I can go crazy creatively, and then at the end of the day I can shut the door and leave the mess as it is without having to pick it up. The goal is to have my artwork in many of the rooms of Bermuda's babies and children.
