C-Travel bought by Canadian firm
C-Travel has been bought out by Canadian travel company Kensington Tours, The Royal Gazette can reveal. The travel agency’s CEO Carl Paiva said that the takeover will put the company firmly on the map as a global player and open it up to 300 worldwide destinations. But he said that the firm, which will become C-Travel, a Kensington Tours company, would maintain its brand and 28-strong workforce and would be looking to expand into new offices and take on new employees in the future.Kensington Tours specialises in individual, standard and deluxe holidays as well as IT functions which will enable C-Travel to redevelop its website and online booking engines. And Mr Paiva, who will continue as CEO, believes that with the backing of a major international company, the travel agency can step up its marketing efforts and presence through getting out to speak at events promoting its services and holiday deals.“Nothing changes materially for us,” said Mr Paiva. “The C-Travel brand stays and when it comes to the staff they are our bread and butter. The travel agents are certainly secure in their jobs because they know their business and they are seasoned professionals.”Mr Paiva said that the link-up with Kensington Tours would afford his staff the opportunity for further training and development.Meanwhile the acquisition will also allow the travel agency to bring in more junior staff as the business grows, who will work under senior managers and be trained at the parent company in Toronto, he said.Mr Paiva said that the company was on the lookout for a more spacious and central location for when it moves out from its Bermudiana Arcade office in the next six months.“I am absolutely confident that we’ll grow in leaps and bounds in their business,” he said. “With the online business as well as our website redevelopment we will also be moving on the cruise and tour side.“I just see this as an opportunity to become a global player and not just a travel agency in Bermuda.”He said that Kensington Tours had recognised C-Travel’s potential as a company that had a strong presence in the cruise and tour business and was constantly moving with the times.C-Travel was formed in 2000 by Mr Paiva.
