Sisters open vintage clothing boutique
Sisters with a passion for fashion are officially opening a boutique for vintage clothing aficionados this evening.Sheena Bassett and Mesheiah Crockwell are opening BSquared Vintage, on Middle Road, Southampton, close to Heron Bay School. On opening the store, they already have a long list of clientele who have taken part in vintage clothing events in homes and hotels. When the venue became available, they jumped at the chance to create a retail outlet.Their love for fashion began many years ago when they visited their grandmother in the Caribbean and also shopping trips to The Barn and other thrift stores for vintage gear, where they would purchase items that they would then alter to look unique.Today they are always on the look-out for select pieces that they know their customers will love.“We always enjoyed shopping for vintage pieces and the business kind of evolved out of that,” said Mrs Crockwell.“As sisters it was always something fun to do when we travelled. With vintage, it is one of a kind pieces which can be integrated into our everyday pieces whether it is accessories, a bag, a belt, a skirt or whatever.”From the time they were youngsters they had wanted to open up a vintage boutique together. They talked about what it would be like.“We talked about what it would look like, what we would do. There are people on the Island with similar interests to us and looking for that piece to add to their wardrobe that would make it interesting and creative to express their individuality and fashion sense,” said Mrs Crockwell.“So we launched five years ago as a mobile vintage boutique and hosting home shows and private parties for groups of girlfriends who wanted to get together and do something different on a Friday or Saturday night. This has kept us busy.”Their customers have been asking for a boutique for years, so opening the store was a natural progression.“We decided it was time to take the next step and actually open up our own boutique and put our stamp on it, as sisters,” said Ms Bassett.“We hadn’t really planned to do it at this particular time, but everything just fell into place, so it just felt like the right time.“And I guess we were at a point in our relationship where we were on the same page, ‘so let’s stop talking about it and just do it!’”The Grand Opening of BSquared Vintage is today 5.30pm to 9.30pm.
