Sailor on research vessel suffers stroke

A 55-year-old man off research vessel Walther Hermig had to be medivaced to the Island last night after suffering a stroke.The crew member, who was onboard a vessel recently on Island conducting research of the Sargasso Sea, was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance around 7.30pm.A Bermuda Maritime Radio spokesman said: “The Captain contacted us via satellite phone (on Monday) just reporting one of the crew members had suffered a stroke and was requesting a medical evacuation. “They diverted to Bermuda and it has taken as long as it has.”The German vessel is currently berthed at Pennos Wharf in St George’s.
