Breaking News - Date for Bermuda's World Cup qualifier with Cayman Island announced
Bermuda will officially open their 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign against Cayman Island on home turf at the National Sports Centre (NSC) February 3, football's world governing body Fifa announced today.
The Island's senior national football team, fresh off a 4-2 win over Caribbean Football Union (CFU) rivals St.Kitt's and Nevis at the NSC last month, will take on Cayman Island in a home and away series, with a date for the away match yet to be announced.
Bermuda are scheduled to take on Puerto Rico in back-to-back meetings at the NSC next week, with Bermuda Football Association (BFA) keen to have the Island's representatives play in as many matches - and possibly embark on a training camp abroad - ahead of next month's crucial World Cup qualifier.
The eventual winner of the Bermuda versus Cayman match will meet regional powerhouse Trinidad and Tobago in June.
During the previous World Cup qualifying campaign Bermuda failed to progress to the second round after they were narrowly edged on aggregate by El Salvador
